Backup Confidence and Restore Proof

Separate a successful backup job from evidence that an agreed sample can actually be restored.

When a green dashboard is not enough

Restore evidence answers a specific question

The backup dashboard is green, but nobody remembers seeing a restore work.

Coverage, retention or the destination for an important workload is uncertain.

A test is possible, but nobody has defined the sample, authorization or restore location.

Three things not to confuse

Successful job, expected coverage and observed result

A successful job shows that a process completed. It does not by itself prove that the right data is protected or that a restore would meet the business need.

A test with a clear boundary

  • Choose a representative file, mailbox or small workload without pretending to test the whole environment.
  • Document the observed result, approval and limits of the sample.
  • Keep a configuration correction separate from a larger recovery exercise.

Define the evidence

Which sample, approval and observed result

  • The agreed systems, data, destinations and available evidence.
  • Who authorizes the test, where the restore goes and which dependencies need confirmation.
  • The sample result, what it supports and what remains untested.

The result documents

What was shown and what remains to verify

  • A clear distinction between job status, expected coverage and restore evidence.
  • The documented result of the agreed sample and its limits.
  • Next decisions: correct, test another sample, clarify scope or plan separate work.

A bounded verification

The agreed sample and the limits of the conclusion

Included

  • Review of available evidence.
  • A test of an approved sample.
  • An observation summary.

Additional work

  • Full recovery or a major exercise.
  • Remediation and continuity architecture.

Scope, deliverables, and pricing are confirmed before work begins. Additional work requires approval.

Setup and onboarding

Preparation is part of the work

We confirm the scope, evidence, customer responsibilities and any licences or third-party costs before changes are considered.

Customer responsibilities

  • Authorize tests and samples.
  • Confirm application dependencies.
